Archipelago — ARC for short — comes from Full Circle Craft Distillers, the Philippines' first craft gin producer, and this expression is built around organic Japanese black bamboo cultivated on the founding family's own farm, a botanical no one else was distilling. It sits on the house's signature base: whole-kernel French winter wheat grown in the Champagne region, which rounds the spirit with a faint caramel sweetness, and Italian juniper as the structural anchor, joined by cardamom and supporting spice. Bottled at 45% ABV, it took Gold at the 2023 Asian Spirits Masters in London. The profile is unlike any citrus-forward or floral gin: the distillery describes a fresh woody, herbaceous nose with exotic spice and earthy terroir, opening into forest floor, juniper, musk, and spice with a floral, bittersweet mid-palate and black pepper warmth, finishing clean but complex on strong juniper with a cooling cardamom lift. Wine Enthusiast's blind panel found bold anise, lime, and juniper aromas, with lime peel layered over pine, lemongrass, tingly white pepper, and juniper sparks, leading to a long, powdery floral exhale. Master of Malt reads it as bark, herbaceous spice, and forest floor backed by piney juniper and peppercorn — a natural for a Martini. Grassy, earthy, spicy, and unmistakably Southeast Asian: gin from a place that had never made one, tasting like it.
